While addressing the media acting cabinet secretary of interior security Dr. Fred Matiang’i issued a statement banning anti-IEBC demos in central business districts of Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
This comes after the recent anti IEBC demonstrations across the Nairobi and parts of Nyanza region that witnessed some demonstrators causing destruction of property.
“We cannot go on this way. It is unfortunate to see people’s cars being smashed, property being destroyed in the guise of a peaceful demonstrations. We must respect the law,” he said.
He also said that the government was going to charge Nasa Chief Executive Norman Magaya for calling the demos that turned chaotic on Wednesday.
“We shall prefer charges against him because he is the one that called the demos, after we have quantified the extent of the damage,”said Matiang’i
On Tuesday the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka withdrew from the October 26 poll and demanded for fresh presidential election in 90 days with fresh nomination of candidates.
NASA leaders wants the IEBC officials who are alleged to have bungled the August 8 election to resign and be prosecuted starting with the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba.
The NASA leaders announced that from next week the demonstrations would be taking place daily
