Ten chiefs and their assistants in Kuria region have been interdicted over laxity to tackle ongoing cases of female genital mutilation as government grapples with lack of rescue center.
A delegation of government officials led by Gender and Public Service CAS Rachael Shebesh, Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo and county commissioner Boaz Cherutich met chiefs and their assistants in Kehancha town.
Six police officers who have helped in arresting culprits have been lined for promotion, according to Cherutich.
Cherutich said police will put up effort in ending the vice in Kuria region and the action taken should send a warning to others. Despite this interdiction, a few meters away the celebration was on going as usual.
