Kisumu County government has relocated 900 traders who were removed from Kibuye open air market to a spacious place.

Kisumu City Manager Doris Ombara says the traders after the eviction had moved to another market in Manyatta where they overcrowded.

Ombara says the county made a decision to have the traders to temporarily occupy parking of Kisumu Moi stadium.

She says the space is sufficient to accommodate the traders as they observe the social distancing rule as directed by the ministry of health.

Speaking to the press at the site, Ombara says they have given priority to fresh produce traders.

She says traders dealing in tomatoes, onions, fish, vegetables and other perishable goods have been given spaces.

Ombara says there is another space that can accommodate another 100 traders which will be given out.

Traders in second hand clothes protested since they were locked out of the process.

Ombara explained that the directive banning mitumba trading is still in force and would not like to go against the government directive.
