Kisumu County Government has de-registered all the boda boda Community Based Organizations (CBOs) following a clash last week that left two people dead and scores with injuries.
The County Governor Anyang Nyong’o says boda boda sector has been hijacked by external forces to carry out criminal activities.
Nyong’o says the county security committee together with the county leadership deliberated on the issue and resolved to revoke all the licenses issued to the CBOs.
He says the county director of social development has been directed to de-register even Saccos or associations held by the boda boda riders.
The team further resolved to freeze all the bank accounts held by the boda boda groups until the sector will be organized.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu after the meeting, Nyong’o told the officers concerned to communicate to the banks the resolutions made as far as the accounts are concerned.
He further directed all the registration certificates issued in respect of those CBOs to be surrendered to the office of the county director of social services latest by 5 pm today.
Nyong’o told the boda bodas that they must operate within the Traffic Act and any operator found flouting traffic rules will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the traffic rules.
