Chemelil Sugar Company has lost Sh. 20 million for the two days workers have been on strike.
This was confirmed by the Company Managing Director Gabriel Nyangueso who says the strike paralyzed the operations of the factory.
Ngangueso is optimistic that workers will resume work following the directive by the Ministry of Agriculture that had spelt terms of resuming work.
He says the strike is hurting both the farmer and the management noting that consultation is key to ending the stalemate.
Workers on Tuesday stormed the management office pelting windows with stones.
Police moved in and arrested 19 officials of the workers union who were leading the illegal strike.
Speaking to the press at his office, Nyangueso says the workers had wanted the arrears last year in December which was paid.
He says later the union officials demanded that the MD and head of finance vacate office.
Nyangueso says the issues which were being raised by the union were thrashed by the ministry when they met the workers, farmers and management.
However, Ngangueso claims that the union officials have rejected the recommendations by the ministry to have the farmers back to office as issues they had raised are resolved within a stipulated time.
