The Chief Administrative secretary in the Ministry of Gender has called on communities practicing Female Genital Mutilation to help in the fight against the social vice that has escalated gender disparity.
While speaking in Migori county during the launch of the County Specific Costed Action Plan for ending the FGM in Migori county by 2022, Linna Jebbi Kilimo said that Migori county tops in cases of FGM at 78% with 4 out of 5 girls in every household having been circumcised .
Kilimo added that they action plan was developed through consultative engagement with the Anti FGM stakeholders nationally and developed levels for ownership and inclusivity.
The Anti FGM board chairperson Juddy Preiyo assured the affected communities of their commitment of the board to achieving the end goal within the stipulated timeline .
The county secretary Christopher Rusana said the county government will work with the multi-agency team to finding better approaches to ending FGM.
