Flood victims in Muhoroni Sub County who were to receive food donations from the national government were left stranded as leaders’ shift blame games.

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o had arrived at the venue, Kogalo evacuation centre, to receive devolution cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa and water cabinet secretary Sicly Kariuki.

Other leaders, including area MP Onyango Koyoo, County Senator Fred Outa and Woman Representative Rosa Buyu however were in a local primary school waiting for the two CSs to land for the event.

Nyong’o then told the flood victims that the two CSs could not fly out from Nairobi due to bad weather.

He told them that a new date will be picked for the visit.

Moments later, the other leaders joined in as Nyong’o was planning to leave the venue.

Senator Outa accused Governor Nyong’o of making a call to CS Wamalwa not to come since the ground was hostile.

Outa says the people are yearning for help from the national government and it was wrong for the event to be cancelled at the eleventh hour.

He told the national government to channel any funds for the flood victims through the National Irrigation Authority and not to county government which he says has mismanaged public funds.

Buyu too protested at the turn of events and accused the Governor and County Commissioner Susan Waweru of micromanaging the event.

She says the trio cancelled the event since they were not involved in the planning.

Buyu says the plight of flood victims should supersede local politics.
