Food donation in Manyatta, Kondele stopped

A food donation for the residents of Manyatta estate in Kisumu was stopped midstream by the police over social distancing as the country battle spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Kondele MCA Joachim Oketch who led the exercise was immediately summoned at the office of Kisumu sub county assistant county commissioner.

Oketch says he had started distributing food portion to the vulnerable households in different bases to conform to the government directive banning gatherings.

He says he was ordered to stop the exercise immediately and report to the Commissioner’s office.

Addressing the press after the meeting, Oketch urged the electorates to keep calm as he sorts out the issue.

He says he flouted during the meeting with the sub county security team to be allowed to distribute the food doo to door during the curfew period.

Oketch says security team promised to look into the proposal but in the meantime stop forthwith the exercise.

He says he targeted to reach out to 3,000 vulnerable groups especially women but the exercise botched when close to 500 persons had been given donations.They were carrying home, sugar, rice, bar soap, maize flour and other assorted
