Free masks for Kisumu residents


Ministry of East African Community and Regional Development Chief Administrative Secretary Ken Obura has now volunteered to produce a total of 1.5 Million masks for free distribution in Kisumu County to help in Coronavirus pandemic prevention. 
CAS Obura who was one time the area Mp For Kisumu central Constituency has engaged close to 30 tailors from the Kibuye open air market to make the masks. 
CAS Obura says so far over 150,000 masks are ready and will be distributed this week in all the seven sub counties in Kisumu. 
Obura says he aims at boosting the local tailors by engaging them in making the masks adding that they’ll continue working until the target of 1.5M masks is reached. 
He says there have been cases of locals being arrested by police enforcing the directive on masks adding that the free distribution will help those who may not have capacity to purchase masks. 
Obura says he is targeting also the old and vulnerable in the society who will benefit from the initiative under his Ken Obura Foundation. 
Speaking to journalists, Obura says he is also set to kick off distribution of food donations to hundreds of families displaced by Nyando floods in Nyando and Muhoroni. 
Obura says he’s heeding to the call by President Uhuru Kenyatta to all leaders in the country to help in making a difference at this time when the country is fighting the pandemic. 
Obura says the masks will be given alongside the food portions adding that its been noted that the use of masks in the villages is wanting. 
He called upon locals to adhere to the laid down ministry of health directives on fighting Covid-19 to help flatten the curve.
