Properties of unknown value have been reduced to ashes after fire gutted down over 50 kiosks at Osiri-Matanda goldmine in Nyatike sub county.
Osiri-Matanda goldmine chairman Mr.Kephas Ojuka said many traders have lost their property in the afternoon inferno whose cause is yet to be established.
Mr. Ojuka said they mobilized the locals who help them put out the fire after county disaster response team failed to respond on time .
Though they managed to control the fire Osiri-matanda goldmine chairman said they had the challenge of accessing the scene because poor access roads and therefore he has appealed to the county government of Migori to help them improve roads within the Osiri-Matanda gold mine.
His sentiments were echoed by the miners’ secretary Mr. Peter Onyango who has appealed to the government to help the people who have been affected by the fire.
Mr. Onyango has also urged the county government of Migori to improve on their disaster response mechanism.
