Governor Nyong’o’s nominees vetted

Kisumu County Assembly appointment committee has vetted two County Executive Committee Members (CECM) nominees appointed by Governor Anyang Nyong’o.

Joyce Osigo nominee for roads and public works and Dr Boaz Otieno nominee for health and sanitation appeared before the committee separately.

Osigo was nominated by the Governor to take the position of Thomas Odinjo who was sacked while Dr Otieno is anticipated to take over from Prof Judith Attyang who was moved to another docket

Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro says the committee members will embark on working on a report based on the vetting process.

“We sat from 9 am and ended the process by 2 pm, going through the academic credentials of the two nominees,” he said.

Oraro says each committee member will award points based on the strength of the performance of the nominated CECM.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Speaker announced that they were unable to take oral submission by the public regarding the suitability of the nominees.

Instead, the public were advised to submit their reservations on the candidatures of the two nominees on line.

Oraro says after two weeks, the nominees will be able to know their fate once the report is laid before the Assembly and debated upon.

“The report will be tabled before the House, with members debating to either approve or reject the two nominees,” he said.
