County Government of Homa Bay has adopted a mobile money payment system for revenue collection across the county’s forty wards, pursuant to Article 207 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and PFM Act 2012.
The County will now use Safaricom’s M-pesa platform (Revenue PayBill No. 684587) to maximize revenue collection in all fees and seal loopholes that have led to revenue loss.
Addressing the media at the county headquarters on Thursday, the Executive Member for Finance, Economic Planning and Service Delivery Hon. Nicholas K’Oriko announced the new system to take immediate effect.
The CEC Member warned against the payment of cash to revenue officers and urged the public to use the M-pesa payment system or the Point Of Sale (POS) mode of payment, currently in use.
“Persons wishing to pay are required to go to the M-pesa menu on their phones, enter Paybill number 684587, their business registration number and payment amount, then show the message to the revenue collector,” said K’Oriko.
“Our target is to raise the revenue collection currently at Sh10 million to Sh20 million, monthly,” he added.
The CEC member said the county targets the vast beaches along the lake to fully maximize collection.
This plan is meant to boost the allocation for development which will lead to the county’s economic growth.
