Widows, the elderly and those vulnerable in Kolondo village, Kabondo Kasipul Sub County were all smiles as food donations arrived at their door steps.
Andre Carter Foundation, a US based Non Governmental Organization spread their wings beyond Kisumu County to reach out to the less fortunate in Homa Bay County.
The Foundation team led by Jackline Oburu, who runs a widow project in Manyatta estate in Kisumu under the sponsorship of the Foundation, says they are giving hope to the vulnerable group in the society.
Oburu says over time they have worked with widows in Kisumu but responded to distress call from low trodden families in the neighboring County of Homa Bay.
She thanked Carter Foundation directors who are in US for the big heart they posses.
“I want to thank Andre Carter for responding to cries by Kenyans who are facing difficult times in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
Sophia Akumu, a resident says the donations will go a long way in alleviating hunger among the people.
Akumu says very few people have come out to respond to the needs of the people.
“I want to thank the brains behind this Foundation for coming to help us all the way from US,” she said.
Akumu asked God to give strength to the Foundation Directors to enable them offer more support to other families who are sufferings.
Marsline Owuor was not left behind in appreciating the gesture advanced to the people of Kolondo who have not received any support from either the national government or county government.
“Life is hard because of Corona, but I want to thank this team for coming down to save us from hunger,” she said.
A local administrator Margret Ogutu says she was overwhelmed by the suffering of her people due to effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
Ogutu says the widows were left to fend for themselves but God has come to their aid through a Foundation.
“The situation was getting out of hand, these women lost their husbands long time ago and life was difficult. I want to thank God for bringing help as far as USA, what a wonderful God,” she said.
Carter Foundation has built a mark in Kisumu and its environs helping orphans and the needy in the society.
The Foundation has lifted many families through education and other economical empowerment.
