Kisumu Sh. 200 million emergency fund approved

Kisumu County Assembly has passed the sh.200 million budget to respond to emergencies.

Kisumu County Assembly has passed a supplementary of Sh. 200 million from the executive meant to address floods and effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro says the next stage is to put in place regulations that will ensure the funds are utilized prudently.

Oraro says floods have affected a number of families some who are residing in camps while Corona virus has also had a negative effect on many families.

He says the funds will help the county government to cushion its people from the effects occasioned by the two calamities.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu during the handing over of food and non food items from Safaricom and Red Cross Society, Oraro says they received the proposal from the executive last week.

Kisumu Senator Fred Outa has been critical over the funds which he said delayed yet the public were suffering.

Oraro says the executive will work on appropriation Bill which will then be presented in the Assembly.

He says the Bill will outline how the funds will be used by the executive to reach out to the affected people and boost its health equipment.
