Rice farmers in Masune rice irrigation scheme in Nyando Sub County have embarked on re-directing water into their rice farms after the office of the area MP Jared Okello blocked the water flow in River Nyaidho.

The farmers led by Raphael Tambo continue to lay blame on the MP for failing to consult with the famers when he sent an excavator to open up the river.

Tambo says farmers are now suffering on the failure by the MP to consult them.

The farmers with the help of Awasi/Onjiko ward MCA Maurice Ngeta bought gunny bags which they are filling with sand to re-direct the water to their farms.

Francis Oguya, a farmer says farmers have lost a lot since the water was blocked.

Oguya says they will ensure the water is re-directed into their farms so that they can continue with farming.

He called upon their MP to return the exactor to rectify the mess that was created.

The scheme chairman Enock Odemba faulted the MP for working without involving rice farmers.

Odemba says farmers are now suffering for the actions of their MP who failed to consult and work closely with farmers.

MCA Ngeta on his side says blame games should now stop and asked farmers to join efforts in finding solutions.

Ngeta says with water, the area can produce many horticultural products but only if farmers are assisted.

He says the area MP has refused to work closely with MCAs to prioritize development activities in their areas.
