Nurses in Kisumu are calling for motivation at their work places as the celebration to mark nurses week begins under the theme “nursing the world to help”.

Kisumu County Nursing Officer Jane Raburu says a health worker is the gatekeeper of the health system thus the need for motivation.

Raburu says as the world mark nurses week, it is imperative for the national government to invest in professional growth of the nurses.

She says keeping health workers satisfied and motivated helps the entire health system work smoothly.

Speaking to the press at Kisumu County hospital, Raburu says proper wages for nurses will help the government to retain workers at a time many countries are experiencing brain drain.

She encouraged nurses in the county to get out in the community and engage locals in sensitization exercise regarding their health.

Raburu says as part of the week celebrations, nurses should speak extensively to locals within their jurisdictions and answer questions that may arise on their health.

She says that as the country combats the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, nurses come in handy to help the government to spread the word on the directives issued by the ministry of health to fight Corona virus.
