Nyong’o appoints new CECM to manage health


Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong’o has nominated Dr Boaz Otieno Nyunya to serve as the county executive committee member for health and sanitation.

Nyong’o had appointed himself as the acting CECM for health and sanitation sometimes back despite criticism from the county leadership.

Dr Otieno is a consultant obstetrician health and gynecologist and public health practitioner program specialist.

In dispatch to the press, the nominee is an associate Professor at Moi University, college of health sciences.

He is currently the associate director for programs , Western Kenya at Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in Kisumu.

The heath sector in Kisumu has undergone a lot of challenges coupled with constant strikes among health workers.

Dr Otieno will now be the fourth person to serve as the CECM in charge of health.

Dr Rosemary Obara, who was first nominated in the docket, was fired for being incompetent, followed by Prof Judith Atayng who was moved to trade before Governor Nyong’o himself acted for a short stint.
