Oraro sworn in as speaker

Elisha Jack Oraro is the Kisumu County Assembly substantive Speaker following his unanimous election.

All the 47 MCAs voted to have Oraro as their Speaker after his sole contestant Kenneth Amondi who withdrew from the race on Thursday got nil votes.

Oraro got an easy ride after ODM party threw their weight behind him forcing his rival Amondi to throw in the towel.

The resounding vote now gives Oraro an easy task to unite the Assembly that was divided after the impeachment of former Speaker Onyango Oloo.

Oraro in his address to the press after being sworn in pledged to foster peace and development.

He says the confidence bestowed upon him by his former colleagues is enormous as he promised not to let them down.

Oraro, the former Kisumu North ward MCA says his work is well cut out.

He called upon all stakeholders in Kisumu County to work as a team to reap the benefits of team work.

Speaker Oraro says he will strive o ensure a cordial working relationship between the Assembly and the executive.

Due to pending Bills, Oraro says the Assembly will liaise with the executive to freeze some projects in this financial year to offset debts accrued in the past.

He challenged the executive to work round the clock to increase revenue collection in the county to help in payments of the pending bills.
