Persons Living with Disability in Nyalenda B, Kisumu Central Sub County were not left behind in the distribution of food ration to the vulnerable groups in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
The area MCA Joseph Opiyo Olale says the distribution targeted 100 PLWDs drawn from the entire ward.
Olale says he took the initiative to purchase food and non food stuff and assist them due to the hard economic times being experienced in the country as a result of Corona virus.
“This group is very special to me, that is why I am here peronaly to ensure they benefit from this distribution,” he said.
He says he used his own resources as the area representative to ensure the group is assisted.
Speaking at Jacaranda primary school where the exercise was conducted, Olale says over time PLWDs have missed out on the food distributions due to chaotic scenes witnessed.
He says he dedicated a day for them to ensure a smooth distribution to cushion them from further injuries always caused by stampede.
Olale says each household carried home an assortment of food and non food stuff that can take them for some days.
“In the package, we have maize flour, cooking oil, rice amongst other things,” he said.
He promised to ensure more support is availed to the vulnerable community in the ward.
The County Assembly of Kisumu has already passed the Sh. 200 million emergency fund that is intended to reach out to the vulnerable people.
