Residents of Kawango village in Kisumu West Sub County were all smiles as the county government sent an excavator to the area to open up water ways that has displaced a number of families.

An elder in the area, Jotham Ajiki Onduu says locals have been facing challenges during this rainy season due to water overflow from a local stream.

Ajiki says as an elder he presented the cries of the locals to Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o who ordered for the opening up of the water ways to drain into River Magada.

“The response Governor Nyong’o gave to our plea is marvelous. As the people of Kawango we are indebted to him,” he said.

Speaking to the press when the excavator started the exercise, Ajiki says the service the county has given to the people of Kawango is enormous.

Kisumu West MP John Olago’s representative Onyango Odera says the water overflow has brought miseries to the people especially a local school, Aboge primary school.

Odera thanked Governor Nyong’o for quick response to the cries of the locals noting that the school will now be protected from the dangers posed by the water.

He announced that MP Olago had promised to ensure he works with the locals towards maintenance of the stream.

“I want to confirm that MP Olago will work more here, there are some rocks down there that now requires hand work,” he said.

Locals too were not left behind in heaping praises on the county government who have responded on time to address the flooding.

They are still calling for more help especially mosquito nets to cushion locals for malaria.
