Restaurants to remain closed in Kisumu

Restaurants and eateries in Kisumu County are set to remain closed even after the national government announced their opening late last month but under strict guidelines.

The Count Governor Anyang Nyong’o says the county has no testing kits to carry out tests on employees in the restaurants.

Nyong’o says it was a directive that the restaurants and eateries be opened on condition that all the employees test for COVID-19 pandemic.

He says there are no testing kits in the entire county and challenged the Ministry of Health to avail the kits to the county.

He says many people; both young and women will still be out of employment as the government strives to obtain the testing kits.

Speaking in Kisumu when he received an assortment of donations from well wishers, Nyong’o ordered that restaurants and eateries places to remain shut as a precaution measure to combat the spread of the virus.

He says no employee will be allowed to operate in a restaurant or eatery without first being tested as a requirement by the government.

The Governor says his administration is not ready to risk the lives of the people of Kisumu by bending the law.

He told business people to remain patient and not view his hard stance as a punishment but for the betterment of the people of Kisumu.

However, a spot check in the lakeside city reveled that a number of restaurants and eateries paces are operating normally after the government eases the order last month.
