The principal Secretary in states department of East African Community Dr.Kevit Desai has called on communities living along the border town of Isebania to focus on international trade to boos their economy.
The principal Secretary while speaking at Isebania ,Migori town during a consultative meeting with the business community said there is need for the country’s economy to recover from economic depression which was caused by covid -19.
Desai said despite the covid fears along the border towns , economic restoration of the regions is a priority to the government.
He added that the government has set aside kshs.1 billion towards the construction of East African border market at Isebania crossing point.
The P.S said once completed, the market will not only boost cross border trade but also enhance value addition of perishable goods.
Speaking at the same function was the Migori governor okoth obado who called on the government to restore security in the lake which has threatened the fishing industry.
The county boss decried continuous harassment of the Fisher folk from neighbouring countries saying this has stirred diplomatic feud between east African Trade corridor.
