Schools closed due to Flood

Two primary schools in Kisumu have been closed  after the school compound was flooded.
St Mark Nyabera and Kasagam, both found within Nyalenda slums were closed after pupils were sent back home.
A heavy down pour last night coupled with back flow of water from Lake Victoria occasioned the flooding.
A parent, Bob Kaudo says their children were sent home since the entire schools were flooded affecting lessons.
Kaudo says flooding has occasionally affected learning at the two schools during rainy seasons.
Area MP Shakeel Shabir last year announced to upgrade the schools compound to avert further flooding.
However, nothing has been done far as pupils will continue staying at home until the flood water subsides.
The back flow has affected several families living along the lake basin with experts predicting more flooding as a result of rising water levels in the lake.
Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) Dr Said Matano recently said the water levels has risen as a result of precipitation noting that the last time the lake levels reached the same point was in 1962.
