Shelter for a flood victim in Ombaka

A 58 years old man, Francis Onam, who was marooned in flood water in Ombaka, Nyando sub county has a reason to smile after he was evacuated to a higher ground.

Onam, who is blind, was assisted by well wishers through Ahero ward MCA Ken Ooko to acquire land.

He says his plight touched many people after it went viral and help started pouring in.

“I want to thank my MCA Ooko who rented me a house at the centre when my home was submerged in water,” he said.

Onam says over years he has been affected by floods but not to an extend of what occurred this time.

He heaped praises on his MCA who looked for friends to help in purchasing land away from the flood prone area.

MCA Ooko who visited to see how the construction of the Mzee’s house and that of his son thanked Gor Semelang’o who contributed towards the initiative.

“I have come here to see for myself how the fundis’ are progressing well with the works,” he said.

Ooko says the plight of the old man was extra ordinary since he could not see, thus endangering his life in flood water.

“I want to thank Apuoyo Biggy who mobilized funds through friends abroad to be able to purchase land for the construction of the houses,” he said.
