The Department of Health of the County Government of Siaya received drugs valued at KES 73 million of its purchase from MEDs in Nairobi. The consignment which included drugs, non-pharmaceuticals and laboratory reagents are expected to last for at least four months after distribution to all health facilities in the county.
Speaking while receiving the delivery at the Siaya County Referal Hospital, Health County Executive Committee Member Ms. Mary Omondi assured the residents that the drugs will now be available in the health facilities and should be accessed free of charge.
Flanked by the County Health Chief Officer Dr. Omondi Owino, Ms. Omondi Mary issued a warning to the officers who may be planning to embezzle the drugs for private pharmacies that prosecution is awaiting them.
She encouraged the citizens to be vigilant and report any such mischief for prompt action.
She further urged the citizens to effectively utilize the free services offered in health facilities and ensure that they get timely diagnosis of any illnesses before getting medication.
The consignment is broken down to KShs. 40 million for drugs, KShs. 20 million for non-pharmaceuticals and KShs. 13 million for lab reagents.
