The County Government of Siaya through its Lands Department will release KShs.2 million to support title deed processing for disable, the old, widows and those registered under minors within Siaya County according to the departments’ Jackton Nyandiko.
“The County Government will waive fee on title deeds belonging to the poor and vulnerable persons in the society, particularly person living with ddisability, to allow them collect and use it as security for loans to boost businesses,” said Nyandiko.
This follows an outcry from members of the public during the just ending public participation exercise on the 2018/2019 Siaya budget across the County. Lots of title deeds are currently lying uncollected at registrar of lands office because of insufficient processing funds among these vulnerable groups.
During the Public Participation process that ran for about a month, the County Deputy Registrar of Lands Mr. Francis Owino Achila confirmed that over 62,000 land title deeds have not been collected since 2016 within Siaya County alone. He noted that the uncollected title deeds of these County totals, over 5,000 deeds beloned to residents of Bondo Constituency.
“Some of the titles date back to 1997 when the registry was opened and we urge the community to come and collect them” noted Mr. Achila
It also emerged during these meetings that over 49 primary schools are yet to collect their processed title deeds from the registrar of lands, a matter of great concern for the Department who have called on the school boards to process their acquisition pronto.
