SRC faulted on three months medical allowance

Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has been told to make medical emergency allowance for the health workers open ended.

Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) deputy secretary Maurice Opetu says the three months risk allowance announced by SRC is not enough.

Opetu says SRC should ensure health workers are better remunerated in terms of risk allowances past the three months.

He says the government has pronounced itself that the duration COVID-19 pandemic will last in the country is unknown.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu during the start of the nurses’ week celebration, Opetu says health workers are ready to help the country combat the pandemic.

He however thanked SRC for responding to the cries of health workers in the country by approving the three months allowances funds.

Opetu says the risk allowance is dear to the health workers but asked the government to ensure equity in offering allowances in the country to its employees.

He appealed to the nurses to work as a team during this pandemic as they comply with the directives issued by the ministry of health.
