Strengthening health facilities in Kisumu


Kisumu County continues to strengthen its preparedness for COVID-19 pandemic even as the lakeside city has not recorded any single case.

The County Governor Anyang Nyong’o says the city is hosting a referral hospital thus the need to increase facilities to deal with the pandemic within the county or beyond.

Nyong’o says his administration is in the identification process of more institutions to use as an isolation centers.

He says Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital’s ICU bed will be increased from the current 13 to 16 beds.

Speaking in Kisumu at Lumumba health hospital where he received a donation of 30 beds for the facility from Abbysinia Iron and Steel, Nyong’o says equipping health facilities in the county is good for emergency services to the neighboring counties.

He further announced that his administration has placed five holding beds in the 7 sub counties hospitals.

Nyong’o says the number of ambulances will also be increased to strengthen mobility.

Besides the 30 beds, the Iron Company also gave three oxygen cylinders and promised to refill all the cylinders in the sub county hospital.
