Manchester City Star Earling Haaland scored his 35th goal of the season on Wednesday as Manchester City beat West Ham 3-0 to reclaim top spot in the Premier League table from Arsenal. The delicate finish, hardbound by an opening header from Nathan Ake and a deflected Phil Foden volley, moved him past Alan Shearer and Andy Cole as the top scorer in the Premier League in a single season.

Treble-chasing City, who began the night in second place after Arsenal’s defeat of Chelsea on Tuesday, had twice been denied by the woodwork as they were frustrated by relegation-threatened West Ham in the first half. But Nathan Ake made the breakthrough five minutes after the interval with a header from a free kick.

Haaland calmed the atmosphere surrounding the Etihad Stadium as he pounced on Jack Grealish’s through ball to defeat Lukasz Fabianski and surpass the 34 goals of Andy Cole and Alan Shearer with five games remaining.

After securing the victory, replacement Phil Foden made it 3-0 in the 85th minute with a beautifully hit volley.

This win moves them a step closer, restoring their one-point lead at the top with a game in hand. For West Ham, a third consecutive defeat means there is work still to do to guarantee their safety.

Pep Guardiola’s City are vying for their fifth Title in six years with Arsenal on 78 points after 33 games despite having played one more game. If they defeat Leeds United at home on Saturday, they will increase their lead to four.
