3 COVID- 19 positive cases reported in Kisumu

Kisumu County has confirmed three COVID-19 positive cases.Two are truck drivers who arrived from Uganda via Busia border and a woman who recently traveled from Nairobi.

The county Governor Anyang Nyong’o confirmed through a press statement that the two drivers are admitted in an isolation ward at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital.

Nyong’o says the other patient is admitted in an isolation facility in Nairobi.He says the two drivers were intercepted by public health surveillance team having travelled all the way from South Sudan into Uganda before proceeding to Kenya.

The Governor noted that the third case is a woman who had traveled to Nyando Sub County from Nairobi for a burial.All the 19 others who were attending the same burial were screened and tested for COVID-19.  The health team handed over the case to Nairobi Metropolitan surveillance team.

Nyong’o announced that contact tracing and testing for all the three confirmed cases is currently ongoing.

He clarified that no resident of Kisumu has tested positive for the virus yet, terming the three cases outsiders.“We continue to urge the general public to adhere to all government’s directives and public health COVID-19 containment measures,” he said in the statement.

Nyong’o went further to call upon the general public to remain vigilant and report any cases of travel or COVID-19 like symptoms to public health officials.
