Former President Moi Dies At 95

Former President Daniel arap Moi is dead.  Moi who ruled Kenya for more than two decades passed on peacefully at the Nairobi Hospital  early on Tuesday Morning.(Feb 4th). Making the announcement in a presidential proclamation, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the former head of State passed on in the presence of his family.

“It is with profound sadness and sorrow that I announce the passing of a Great African Statesman, H.E. Daniel Toroitich arap Moi, the Second President of the Republic of Kenya. His Excellency the Former President passed on at the Nairobi Hospital on the early morning of this 4th February, 2020; in the presence of his family,” Mr Kenyatta said in a statement.

His son Gideon Moi, who is the Senator of Baringo County, was among family members present when the retired present breathed his last.

“I take this opportunity to tell my fellow Kenyans that Mzee passed on this (Tuesday) morning at 5.20 am, he passed away peacefully,” Gideon told a news conference at the hospital “I was by his side and as a family, we have accepted.” He added.

Born on September 2, 1924, Moi first served as Vice President for fourteen years, before taking over as an Acting President, following the death of founding President Jomo Kenyatta.

He leaves behind seven children: Gideon (Baringo Senator), Raymond (Rongai MP), Jeniffer, June, Philip Moi, John-Mark and Doris. Their mother Lena Moi died in 2004 after having separated from her husband in 1974.
