Carry your own cross if implicated in graft. That was the Jamhuri day message from the Homa bay governor Cyprian Awiti and his Deputy Hamilton Orata. Governor Awiti issued a stern warning to county officials implicated in corruption, and rush to seek public sympathy claiming they are being targeted politically.

Speaking during the celebrations held in Sindo, Suba South, Awiti charged “If you are implicated in corruption, you will have to prepare and answer questions alone. Don’t return to your village people and say you’re targeted,”

Awiti went further to ask county officials implicated in graft to quit from office.Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission Sleuths have recently charged three senior Homaby county officioals with graft. The officials facing graft charges include. Kepha Rombe (administrative officer), Mary Wesonga (Supply chain manager) and former Roads chief officer Chris Agong’.

They are facing charges in connection with loss of more than Sh.180million.
“It is not my habit to sack county officials but corruption will send them home. Don’t blame me if you lose your job but blame yourself for practicing graft,” Awiti added.

On his part, deputy governor Hamilton Orata urged the county executive member to put interest of residents ahead of theirs. “Homa Bay people put you into those offices to serve them and not benefit as individual,” He said.

This comes as Nairobi Governor  Mike Mbuvi Sonko is facing graft charges and was released on bail.
