BY EDDY NYADWA, NAIROBI. Ida Odinga on Friday raised millions of Ida of Shillings to support construction of a state of the art library at Ogande Girls High School. The multi million library will also contain a research and innovation centre, ICT hub and modern recording studio.
Ida who is an alumnus of Ogande Girls said that the project befits her legacy to support girl child education. She noted that as a student in the 1960’s, the institution lacked adequate books.
” This library, which is beyond or more than just books, will not only benefit Ogande Girls High school, but also shared by the community. Without Education, no economy would have a chance to grow. It gives us exposure to the world in a whole new dimension.” She said.
According to Ogande Girls principal Jenipher Otolo, the library complex will help the girls pursue education and impart innovation skills. The facility will also provide adequate space and environment for innovation.
Among institutions that are supporting the project include Ministry of Education, Homabay County Government, Kenya Film Classification Board, and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, KBC.
“Through the Board’s Sinema Mashinani Initiative, our partnership with Ida in the Dr. Ida Odinga Library Research Innovation and Resource Centre shall go a long way in identifying and nurturing talent right from the grassroots” said KFCB chairman Dr. Ezekiel Mutua.
