Ken Okoth’s wife, girlfriend end boy paternity dispute

Ann Thumbi’s son Jayden Baraka will now have a share of his father’s property saving the family a looming inheritance row.

This follows Monica Okoth, wife of the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth agreement to the DNA results confirming Okoth was the four-year old’s biological father. Monica had initially contested the DNA results calling them ‘not genuine’. A Nairobi court had given her two weeks to file her own DNA results. The matter has now been marked closed in a consent filed in court today, ending the paternity dispute that has dragged on for two months.

The widow had earlier disputed the DNA results produced in court that confirmed Thumbi’s son was sired by her now-deceased husband. The documents showed the tests were a 99.99 per cent match, confirming that Okoth was the biological father and Thumbi’s son was entitled to inherit his father’s properties. Monica then requested the court to grant her more time to table a different set of DNA results.

The magistrate ordered the matter mentioned on October 2, 2019 to allow Monica to file her DNA results before the court rules on the paternity case. And on Wednesday, Monica presented her version of the test results. “The DNA results obtained by the applicant (Monica Okoth) indicate that the alleged father is not excluded as the biological father of the tested child,” the three-part consent seen by Standard Digital read. The matter is, however, far from being settled as Ann Thumbi has vowed to petition the court for the child’s upkeep. Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, she said she will move to the High Court to ensure the child’s upkeep including school fees are catered for.
