After months of speculation Kirinyaga County Governor, Anne Waiguru has joined United Democratic Alliance. Waiguru who has recently been hinting that she could ditch Jubilee Party and join Ruto’s “Hustler Nation Movement” has confirmed the news after officially decamping to UDA. This was after the governor met the second in command on Tuesday, October 26 morning at his Karen Residence accompanied by 25 Members of the County Assembly

This move has come after the Kirinyaga governor said that she will listen and do extensive consultations with the constituents on which party she should join ahead of 2022 general election where she will seek to be elected the governor for the second term. “I cannot try to be ignorant and go against my people. I can’t vote myself in, I am listening to what they want. Do they want me to run for governor a second term?” She said.

The Deputy President has welcomed Governor Waiguru move to UDA terming it a bold move. “It takes a courageous person to make such a bold move as this one made today by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru,” the Deputy President said.

Speaking during the meeting, Waiguru said, “We have listened to the people of Kirinyaga who have told us chama ni UDA, form ni hustler na mpango ni bottom up,” she added that, “We are not joining UDA for the sake of it. We believe in the bottom-up model. In Kirinyaga, we have our own bottom-up example called the Wezesha empowerment programme that is changing the lives of people in the villages

The governor also announced that she would defend her gubernatorial seat on the UDA Party ticket where she will face off with the Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Purity Ngirici during the party nominations to determine who will clinch the party ticket in the count’s gubernatorial race ahead of 2022 general elections.

Waiguru said that the majority of Kenyans support Ruto’s 2022 Presidential bid.
