Due to the increased road accidents in the country for the past week, measures to curb this accidents has been put in place by the Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen. The latest accident claimed the lives of five students in Naivasha which has caused an uproar among parents about the safety of our roads as schools keep closing.
The Office of the CS has come up with guidelines that will help mitigate these accidents:
- Operation from 10PM to 5AM for school transportation is not allowed.
- All seats should be fitted with functioning seatbelts in all the school buses.
- With immediate effect all unroadworthy school buses and vans should be removed from the roads.
Other vehicles on the road are required to:
- All public service vehicles should be fitted with functional speed limiters.
- Cameras should be installed at all blackspots by road agencies.
With these measures in place, the transport sector is sure that road carnage will drastically reduce.
