Migori County Assembly elects a substantive deputy speaker to replace Mr George Omamba who was barred from office by the Labour court
Members of the Migori county assembly have elected a deputy speaker in a highly charged debate.
Mathews Chacha, who formerly served as the chair of chairs had replaced Geoerge Omamba whose reinstatement had been set aside by a labour and relation court in Kisumu.In highly charge debate, a section of MCAs led by the former deputy speaker who is the home MCA of the embattled governor Okoth Obado, criticized the move terming it unprocedural. Chacha garnered 41 votes as 11 members declined to vote in protest. The push and pull witnessed at the assembly culminated with the deputy speaker being sworn in by Migori chief Magistrate Dickson Odhiambo. Members of the Migori assembly had been embroiled in bitter exchanges after governor Obado’s impeachment motion was mooted by the ODM party. The assembly speaker Boaz Okoth while addressing the press after the session faulted those opposed to the election terming them as attention seekers who had been seeking favors from the Party leader Raila Odinga.
