NMS Rolls out Mass COVID-19 Testing

BY EDDY NYADWA – Kenya, Oct 17 – Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has rolled out mass COVID-19 testing for City Residents. The exercise commenced on Saturday in Nairobi’s 17 sub-counties targeting with each testing centre targeting  200 people.

A total of 2054 people turned out to take the test with Makadara Sub county recording the highest turn out at 247. Kibra and Kamkunji followed with 214 and 140 respectively.

However, Dogoreti South, Roysambu and Dogoreti North recorded theowest number of test done at 69, 72 and 76 respectfully.

Nairobi County Chief Health Officer  Dr. Ouma Oluga said the agency was hoping to test around 6,000 people by Sunday when the two-day exercise will be completed.

” I am asking Nairobi residents to turn out in large numbers because no one will be turned back. We have the required capacity and adequate testing kits. ” Oluga said.

According to Oluga, the mass testing exercise is will enable NMS to get the clear picture of the level of infections in the city. Current data from Ministry of health show that  Nairobi leads in the rate of covid-19 infections.

” This test will give us a clear understanding on how the virus is spreading and tell us whether we are are in a second wave of infections. Our response then will be based on scientific  information” Oluga Added.
