Outgoing Director General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) Sahle-Work Zewde commended First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for being a role model in servant hood leadership.
She said for the last seven years the First Lady has initiated programmes, which have transformed the lives of communities in the grassroots.
βI have seen and interacted with many First Ladies but none can be compared to you. Most of them hold high level meetings but neglect the grassroots,β said Ms Zewde.
She said the First Lady embodies humility and selflessness in leadership, which has endeared her to many in Kenya as well as the international community.
Ambassador Sahle-Work has been appointed by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as his new special representative and head of the United Nations office to the African Union (UNOAU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
She assured the First Lady of her support in programmes and initiatives, which she plans to undertake.
In her new appointment, Ambassador Sahle-Work will help the African Union build its capacity in dealing with issues of peace and security in the continent.
The First Lady expressed her gratitude to Ambassador Sahle-Work, thanking her for her support during her tour of duty in Kenya.
βIt is so sad that you are leaving but we wish you well,β said the First Lady.
The First Lady said her office would continue to partner with UN organizations to improve the lives of Kenyans.
