Raila Odinga has eulogised the late retired president Daniel Moi as a great philosopher who had the power to predict what would happen.
Raila said Moi played a key role in the war against imperialists that later saw the release of all political detainees.
“Moi managed to rise from a humble background to become the second president of Kenya. He came from poverty, just like Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi, therefore, nobody can talk about a dynasty when it comes to these three families,” Raila said.
Raila said Moi struggled and died struggling just like his children are struggling like any other Kenyan.
” …He came from poverty, just like Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi, therefore, nobody can talk about a dynasty when it comes to these three families.” Raila said.
“What did Moi inherit, why should someone think that one is entitled to more things because he is related to the Kenyatta’s and Moi and not Raila because he is related to Jaramogi?,” Raila posed.
The ODM leader spoke on Wednesday during the funeral service of the late president at Kabarak.
He said just as Uhuru is struggling, he like any other Kenyans are struggling.
Raila said he had a long history with Mzee Moi characterized by both hate and love, but they chose to forgive one another.
“We hated one another at some point, but Moi looked for me. I came here, we held a long discussion ate meat and forgave one another before we shook hands and that is where the first handshake happened,” he said.
Raila said the Kenyatta, Moi and Jaramogi families have a right just like any other Kenyan to seek a political opportunity and should not be mistaken with dynasty.
“We have come here to bid farewell to a heroic leader who lived his long life touching many lives. It is said when a big tree falls the birds scatter and for sure as a nation we have lost an icon,” he said.
