Women within the Nile Basin in Kenya are converging for a five days meeting on climate change resilient.

The meeting under the Kenya Nile Discourse Forum (KNDF) will sensitize women on how to tackle climate change in the society.

KNDF Chairman Joseph Ngome says women are vulnerable to climate change impacts thus the need to find solutions.

Ngome says women bear the brunt of effects of climate change like flooding and severe drought.

Speaking at the start of the meeting in Kisumu, Ngome says after the sensitization meeting, the trained women will then scale up the adaptability to tackle climate change.

He says the Discourse is putting gender equality at the heart of climate action and resilience while raising women’s voices and leadership which is critical for decision making in climate change.

Rosaline Eshikumo from Kakamega County says the meeting is an eye opener to women who are in the frontline to deal with the effects of climate change.

Eshikumo says women and the marginalized groups are a fountain of solutions for climate change and disaster risk reduction.
