Chelsea beat Barcelona 2-1 in a pre- season tournament to lift the Rakuten Cup. Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley were on target for the Blues as they concluded their tour of Japan.

Ross Barkley celebrates after scoring the second goal

During the first and perhaps after missing a few chances, Abraham went past Marc-Andre ter Stegen to hand the Blues the lead. After the interval substitute Barkley rounded off an encouraging team performance with an effort from 20 yards nine minutes from time.

However at the stoppage time Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic struck a glorious top corner goal from 20 yards to be a late consolation. The La liga giants were without their star player Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, instead handing Antoine Griezman his debut. Greizman joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in a £107m transfer.

This victory will definitely boost the morale of the players in believing in new style of play that their new manager Frank Lampard is bringing. Chelsea has since moved from playing the sarri- ball to a high pressing ball buoyed by energy.
