The 2021 Africa cup of nation host narrowly escaped the scare from the first timers Comoros after securering a 2-1 win at the Paul Biya stadium, Olembe. The visitors started the game with their both goalkeepers having tested positive and had to quarantine themselves from the rest of the team. Comoros left back, Chalker Alhadhur was used as a stand in goalkeeper and produced a stunning performance despite playing with ten men after captain Nadjim Abdou was sent off on the 7th minute.
Goals from Karl Toko Ekambi and Vincent Aboubakar ensured that the indomitable lions secured their place at the quarter-finals against Gambia who had earlier overpowered Guinea. The Indian Ocean islanders pulled a goal back with nine minutes to go after Youssouf Mchangama scored a free kick. Despite the defeat, Comoros showed their capability to play and perform on high levels. Comoros are now out of the competition heads up after an outstanding performance against the cups favorites. Cameroon are expected to play Gambia on Saturday at Douala stadium.
