
Guinness, Kenya’s leading stout beer and English Premier League (EPL) broadcast sponsor, awarded the first grand prize winner of Kshs 2 million in the ongoing Guinness ‘Choose Your Side’ national consumer promotion on June 11.
Daniel Mwangi Gathingu, a freelance graphic designer who resides in Nairobi was awarded at a pomp and colorful event hosted at Club Comrades in Nairobi.

“It was sheer luck after a long day of hustling. I headed to Club Salt and bought a 500ML bottle of Guinness. Luckily, I was aware of the promotion after seeing the campaigns advertisements on television, so I went ahead and sent the number under the crown to 21199. After a few weeks, I received a call from Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) informing me that I’m the first grand prize winner of Kshs 2 million,” said Mwangi.
He added, “I have never won before in any of the Guinness promotions. This win has come as a big surprise to me. I will use the money to support my family and advance my career progression and self-development.”

Daniel is now planning to set up an office and purchase equipment’s to assist him in his work. He envisions to flourish since his work was stalling time and time again due to lack of funds.
Speaking during the handover event, Kenya Breweries Limited Marketing Manager – Guinness, Ms. Nduku Wamakau said; “Guinness endeavors to not only produce the best quality beer for our consumers, but also to engage with loyal consumers and reward them fully as they share their passion and love for football.”

The national consumer promotion which kicked off on 17th April 2018 to recognize and appreciate loyal consumers has already awarded six winners with Kshs. 500,000 each in addition to awarding hundreds of consumers with daily and weekly prizes.
Besides the ongoing promotion, Guinness has been running a series of successful Guinness Fanzone events across the country, treating football fans to the ultimate football watching experience with live DSTV screenings of English Premier League (EPL) games with the most recent one being the Kisumu Guinness Fanzone which was held at the Simba Union on May 5th 2018.
The Kisumu Fanzone Experience follows two successful Guinness Fanzone events this football season; legendary footballer and former Gunners striker, Thierry Henry graced the first one in December 2017 during a visit to Nairobi, while the second was in Meru in April 2018.
