Learning is still at a standstill at Maseno University despite the University calling students back to resume their studies as dons intensifies their strike that has taken 76 days.
Speaking to Dala FM and Lolwe TV on Wednesday, Dr. Kotuto George, University Academic Staff Union ( UASU) vice chairman , Maseno university chapter said that they will not report back to work until their Consultative Bargaining Agreement ( CBA) contract is signed and effectively improvised by the university administration.
He blamed the university Vice Chancellors for not giving their concerns a priority and pocketing a counter offer of 1.75% basic salary tabled by the Ministry of Education to Inter- universities consultative forum.
Speaking also during the interview, Mr. Peter Liseru, Kenya University Staffs Union ( KUSU) chairman, Maseno University, urged the government to look into effective and proper ways of ending the lecturers strike once and for all.
He further asked Cabinet Secretary for education, Dr. Amina Mohammed to resign since she couldn’t use her diplomatic experience in solving and bringing the strike to an end.
Brian Otieno, a student at Maseno University also urged the government to look into their plight and to come into final agreement to end strike that has affected them both academically and financially.
