In a fascinating Champions League final Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale came off the bench to score one of the all-time great goals in a Champions League final as they beat Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev.
Bale delivered a moment befitting of the showpiece, following his 64th-minute overhead kick sealing a 13th European Cup for the Spanish giants and their fourth in five seasons.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, who lost Mohamed Salah in the first half with a suspected dislocated shoulder and then saw Loris Karius gift Karim Benzema the opener (51) had swiftly rallied in Kiev through Sadio Mane (55).
The Egyptian hurt his left shoulder as he went down in a challenge with Sergio Ramos in the 25th minute. Five minutes later he made way for Adam Lallana.
Sadio Mane managed to level things , but Bale put Real in front again and then made it 3-1 late on with a long-range strike that the unfortunate Livepool’s goal Keeper Karius could only punch into the net.
Zinedine Zidane went into history to become the first coach ever to win the Champions League three years in a row.Real Madrid are the first team to achieve that feat since Bayern Munich in 1976. This is their fourth title in five years, and their 13th overall.
Addressing the media Zinedine Zidane could hide his joy saying that it was an unbelievable feeling on winning the title.
“To win three CL trophies with this club is magnificent. It’s an unbelievable feeling, and we don’t quite realize what we have achieved yet. Gareth’s goal was magnificent, congratulations to him. It’s not the same thing, but this is just the latest one that we’ve witnessed. We’ll enjoy the moment first, we had a complicated season but this makes us really happy.”said Zinedine Zidane
Cristiano Ronaldo has now won five in his great career, but even he could not argue that this was Bale’s evening.Cristiano Ronaldo also cast doubt on his own future at Real Madrid, saying he would give supporters “an answer” in the weeks to come. Now it’s time to enjoy the moment.” added Ronaldo
