In a fascinating match played at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County on Sunday,Gor Mahia got a 1-0 win over South Africa’s Supersport United in the CAF Confederations Cup play-offs.
The match looked like it was going for a barren draw but it was in the 77th minute that Rwandan international Jacques Tuyisenge scored the only goal of the match through the penalty spot after Supersport’s defender Gomolemo Kekana handled the ball in the box while trying to intercept Meddie Kagere’s header.
Gor Mahia’s coach Dylan Kerr was happy praising the players following the result but mentioned it was not enough and that they needed to go for the return leg in Pretoria with positive mindset to be able to qualify.
“That’s an important result for us, but one nil is not enough. We need to go there (Pretoria) with positive mindset and attitude the way we did in Esperance,” said a delighted Gor coach Dylan Kerr.
“All the same, credit to the players and my technical bench for the job well-done.”said Kerr.
The team now has hopes of advancing to the next stage if it manages a draw in the return leg against their rival in South Africa.
