Gor settle for a barren draw with Tunisia’s Esperance in first leg of CAF Champions

On Wednesday Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia were held in a barren draw with Esperance a fascinating match held at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Gor Mahia has lots of scoring chances Esperance goalkeeper Noel Ben Sherifia had twice produced brilliant saves to ensure his side remained in the game.In the eighth minute  Kagere’s header flew over the crossbar in the eighth minute, after he connected with Francis Kahata’s cross who had mad skillfull dodge past Esperance’s Khalil Chanan.

It is  in the 16th minute that Gor came so close to scoring when Jacques Tuyisenge was sent through by a brilliant Francis Kahata pass but his powerful shot from the right thundered under the upright.

Esperance goalkeeper Noel Ben Sherifia pulled another save seven minutes later when he punched away a shot from Kagere from the edge of the box after George Blackberry Odhiambo set up the forward  password.

In the second half Esperance appeared more of an attacking side though their efforts didn’t bare fruits Gor Mahia seemed to have slowed down, especially in midfield, forcing coach Dylan Kerr to substitute  Francis Kahata for Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi.  the visitors  appeared comfortable with the draw , employing time wastage tactics as the clock ticked fast to full time.

The second league will be held on March 17th 2018 in Tunis.
