The Kisii County Government has embarked on a major infrastructure upgrade of Gucha Level Four Hospital to improve health service delivery.
On Monday, Governor James Ongwae commissioned the construction of a modern kitchen, a laundry block and a 20-body capacity mortuary at the hospital as part of the upgrade.
Gucha is the second largest hospital in the county after Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. Recently, the County procured and installed a power transformer to address perennial power supply challenges at the facility.
Engineers are finalizing installation of an Electrical Distribution Panel to allow the hospital operate specialized equipment including digital x-rays, dental x-ray and theatre equipment.
“We shall upgrade this hospital to a Level Five facility to help decongest KTRH and bring services closer to the people. We want this hospital to live to its true status of a Sub County referral hospital,” said Governor Ongwae.
Governor Ongwae who was accompanied by his Deputy Joash Maangi and MCAs from Bomachoge announced that a laundry machine with a capacity to process 264 kilograms of line had been delivered while mortuary equipment will be installed soon.
“We shall continually improve the stature of this hospital in terms of infrastructure, equipment and human resources for health. When we came in, there were only two doctors in this hospital but now we have eight. We also have three pharmacists, one dentist and one radiographer. Additionally, we have 35 nurses, “ added Ongwae.
Boochi/Tendere MCA James Ondari thanked the County Government for the projects saying residents will no longer have to travel to Nyamache and Kisii Town to access mortuary services.
“We thank the County for delivering on its pledges. We shall work together regardless of party affiliation to bring development to our people. Now we ask that the County sets up eye and dental clinics at the hospital,” said Ondari.
CEC for Education Amos Andama and MCAs Rosa Orondo (Misesi), Samwel Onuko (Boochi Borabu), Ibrahim Ombuya (Bosoti/Sengera), Amos Onderi (Bokimonge) were present.
