Kisii County will host this year’s edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association and County Assemblies Sports Association (KICOSCA/CASA).
The KICOSCA National Governing Council presented the official letter granting Kisii County hosting rights for the games in August this year.
Speaking when he presented the letter, the National Secretary Muraya Kabiri noted that the governing council overwhelmingly endorsed Kisii to host the game and expressed optimism that the county will work round the clock to ensure the event succeeds.
“Two counties applied to host the event and an ad hoc committee was appointed to access the suitability of the two applicants. We are happy that the committee chose Kisii and we hope that it will be the best host as compared to other hosts so far,” he said.
Muraya thanked Deputy Governor Joash Maangi for his support to games noting that he had attended all previous editions of the games.
“We are delighted to have been chosen as the host for this year’s games. This is a good opportunity to showcase the sports talent among staff and foster inter-cultural understanding. We are ready to host this games in Kisii and my staff should embark on serious training to win as many trophies as possible,” said Ongwae.
Kabiru noted that in previous events, participants faced a number of challenges in the hospitality sector including lack of adequate food and inadequate accommodation facilities.
He urged the County’s organizing committee to ensure that the over 8,000 participants enjoy their stay in the area.
Senior Vice Chairman Peter Ogalo, National Treasurer Sossion Kimiti, deputy secretary Jacob Kesendanyi, accompanied him, chairman in charge of accommodation Daniel Gakuo and Secretary Technical Fred Onundu.
He said the executive committee is planning for an appropriate date when the outgoing Patron Dr. Alfred Mutua, Governor Machakos County, will install Governor Ongwae as the 2018 Patron. During the event, Machakos Governor will hand over the KICOSCA ceremonial chain and the peace torch to his Kisii counterpart.
Governor Ongwae will also be required to lead the selected Kenyan team to Kigali, Rwanda in December for the East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) competitions.
Governor Ongwae and his Deputy Joash Maangi thanked the national team for trusting in Kisii and announced that the County is ready to host the event.
“We are aware that we participants will participate in a total of 18 disciplines. Various committees have been formed and we promise that we will give the best,” said Ongwae.
